What is the Stone Forest? The Stone Forest is a section of Lunan Yi Nationality Autonomous County that has great scenic stones structures, some of animals, plants, and some of even people.
During the Paleozoic Era the Stone Forest is where a shallow sea use to be. There was a shift in the earths tectonic plates and the sea was emptied. The sediment from the sea formed sandstone which was then covered by limestone. Over time the weather and other elements shaped the rocks into what they are now.

- It is know as Shilin which Literally means Stone Forest.
